This Week's Facebook Cover Picture Courtesy of Gwynedd

We've just updated our Facebook page with our latest cover picture courtesy of one of our RCGP friends in the North.

Our new Facebook image was taken by GP Registrar Lucy Downing of what must be her handywork on Dinas Dinelle Beach in Gwynedd.

We're updating our Facebook page every Wednesday with an entry from a photographic competition being run by RCGP Wales called “Where I Work” which celebrates the organisation's 60th Anniversary this year.

As part of the contest, the College has asked members to send it images associated with their workplace with the winning entries set to be displayed in the Cymru Wales Room in the RCGP's new HQ in Euston Square, London, when it opens later this year.

WaMH in PC has an interest in the College as we were established by its Welsh branch back in 2003 to act as a special interest working group to promote primary mental health care and improve mental health services across Wales.

We're trying to contact as many entrants as possible to ask for their permission to show-off their photographic skills via Facebook so if you've entered and would like to see your photo on our page then please don't hesitate to get in touch.

All you have to do is email your image, its name and your details to our Project Manager Lesley Hills at lhills@rcgp.org.uk and we'll look into adding it to our page over the coming weeks.

Meeting The Challenge of Dementia in Wales - The National Dementia Vision for Wales

We've just launched a new Dementia section on our website as part of the national aim to improve the lives of those with and affected by dementia across Wales.

There are currently just over 42,700 people living with dementia in Wales but this is not just a problem affecting Wales.

The most up-to-date statistics show that the numbers of people with dementia are rising across the UK and the world with an estimated 35 million people with dementia worldwide.

Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain and symptoms include the gradual loss of memory, reasoning and communication skills.

Much work has taken place in Wales recently to identify the areas which need to be addressed to improve the lives of those with and affected by dementia and this has led to the creation of the National Dementia Vision for Wales.

Dementia Help in Wales

The strategy provides a long-term vision to ensure Wales can best meet the challenge of an increasing number of people living with dementia across the country.

The document highlights the support and advice available to anyone diagnosed with dementia in Wales and a dedicated helpline and website has also been launched to back these services up.

The bilingual Wales Dementia Helpine is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and is manned by specially trained staff who you can get in touch with by simply calling 0808 808 2235 or texting 'help' to 81066.

Further information will be added to our Dementia section as time goes on so please return for updates or follow our  Facebook page today for numerous updates and bits and pieces of information about dementia help across Wales.

If you have any questions about WaMH in PC's work with dementia in Wales please contact us via email at lhills@rcgp.org.uk or on 029 2050 4516.

Fresh New Look for WaMH in PC Facebook Page

We've updated our Facebook page with a fresh new look thanks to GPs from around Wales.

We launched our Facebook page back in May and have been looking for some pictures to decorate it ever since.

Now thanks to the photgraphic skills of Abertawe Bro Morgannwg Health Board Area Locum GP Dr Rachel King - and a competition celebrating the history of the RCGP - we've finally found what we were looking for.

Dr King's picture of Wenallt Woods in Cardiff is an entry in a competition being run by RCGP Wales called “Where I Work” where the College has asked members to submit photographs in celebration of the RCGP's 60th Anniversary.

Hopefully, Dr King's picture will join a selection of the winning photographs set to be displayed in the Cymru Wales Room in the RCGP's new HQ in Euston Square, London, which opens later this year.

RCGP celebrates it's 60th year in 2012 and WaMH in PC has an interest in the College as we were established by its Welsh branch back in 2003 to act as a special interest working group to promote primary mental health care and improve mental health services across Wales.
