Managing Dementia in Primary Care - Training Package

Dementia is a hugely important topic for all practice staff as our population is getting older and dementia will become more common in our communities.

It puts a huge strain on families and carers and is one of the biggest worries for people over 65.

We all need to help develop services which support people with dementia and their carers.

Our Managing Dementia in Primary Care Training Package has been designed - alongside the Alzheimer’s Society and many others - to support primary care teams in delivering the best quality care to patients with dementia and their carers.

The video element of this Training Package is hosted on our WaMH in PC YouTube Channel.

However, some organisations - including NHS Wales - block access to YouTube so, if you're unable to open the videos on your computer, please contact NHS Wales Informatics Service (NWIS) on 08450 267 297 or at primarycare.servicedesk@wales.nhs.uk or your IT department.

You can also contact Lesley Hills at lhills@rcgp.org.uk or on 029 2050 4516 if your IT department cannot access the material.

After 18 November 2013 all Practice Managers in Wales will receive - courtesy of the Business Service Centres (BSCs) - a copy of the ‘Managing Dementia in Primary Care’ DVD and a hard copy of the Facilitators Workbook.

The DVD will provide you with everything you need to deliver this training and can also be used to support further learning within the practice team via the provision of additional educational resources.

The contents of the DVD, workbooks, training materials and additional resources can also be accessed via this section of the website on the following links:

The core training lasts for 2 hours and is aimed at the whole practice with an additional training section for clinical staff on Advance Care Planning and End of Life Care which takes an additional 15 minutes.

If you have any questions about the information and training within this section or WaMH in PC's work with dementia in Wales please contact us via email at lhills@rcgp.org.uk or on 029 2050 4516.
