The changes under Part 1 are different to previous policy changes in that they place legally-binding duties on the NHS and Local Government across the whole of Wales.
These changes will happen, so mental health professionals need to know what the Measure requires, what it means to primary care, what to expect and how it will help primary care and their patients.
In conjunction with the 2 Measure Information Sheets we have already produced, we have now created this Downloadable Resource to help GPs and their teams understand Part 1 of the Measure which came into force in October 2012.
Therefore, we urge you to spend time going through the various sections of our Downloadable Resource which we have split up into the following 3 distinct sections:
The primary care community will also need to be aware of some of the other aspects of the Measure - including parts that dictate that all those receiving secondary care services will have a care plan which is now called a Care and Treatment plan (CTP therefore replaces CPA).
Also patients who have been discharged from secondary care services can ask to be re-assessed within the next 3 years by contacting secondary care services directly without the need to see a GP.
We hope to continue to support Welsh primary care over the next 12 months as these new services develop and become embedded in GP practices.
