This year's WaMH in PC ‘Really Useful Conference’ will be held at Cheltenham Racecourse on Wednesday 9 October looking at innovative approaches in primary care mental health.

Workshop: The BATHE Technique
Speaker: Chair of Primhe and GP in Tipton Dr Ian Walton MB, BS & MRCGP and South London GP Dr Henk Parmentier MD & DFFP
The BATHE technique effectively turns a physical consultation into a mind-body one, allowing a patient to get in touch with their feelings and then focus on the most pressing problem.
They then show the practitioner how to hand the problem back to the patient, whilst still showing them human love and understanding, all in a primary care consultation time.
The simple but incredibly effective sequence the technique is named after is:

Workshop: NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming): Using Metaphor for Change
Speaker: Dr Maureen Tilford, MB. ChB and GP
There are a number of different approaches which can be utilised to help people to change and unlike cognitive methods, which use rational thought to challenge fears and limiting beliefs, NLP and hHypnosis use creative imagination and metaphor.
The emphasis is always on recovery and in this workshop you'll be shown and given the opportunity to try out some easy NLP techniques.
You'll learn how to enable your patient to use their own creative imagination to bring about change - it's amazing how quickly people find their own imagery.
